Javea

This ancient fishing port of Javea covers an area of coastline to the north of the Costa Blanca where olive, almond, orange and lemon trees cover the hillsides and the elephant shaped 'Montgo' mountain dominates the skyline.Javea was deemed by the World Health Organisation to be 'environmentally near perfect' and it enjoys a year round mild climate making it a popular place to live for expatriats and Spanish alike.

The old town of Javea nestles at the foot of the Montgo and is made up of narrow, winding streets and ancient buildings made of the famous Tosca stone. In the centre of the town, standing 16 metres tall is the fortified Gothic church of San Bartolome and opposite the church a daily indoor market offers fresh fish, meat, fruit and vegetables.

The Javea Arenal is the large crescent shaped 'blue flag' beach where families can play and swim safely. A pleasant promenade overlooks the beach where you will find a fine choice of bars and restaurants.

The Aduanas de Mar or Port area of Javea is one of the most active on the Costa Blanca with fishermen leaving every night and returning early each morning to auction their catch in the huge fish market. It is worth sacrificing a lie in to experience this first hand and bid for your dinner at the same time! There are a number of quality shops in this area as well as an excellent choice of tapas bars and restaurants.
